ABEOKUTA Time-Distance Trials Challenge(RELOADED!). Update: Our federation (AFN) would not yield to return their league to the 2-day Classics competition type we used to have. A day competition would force athletes to compete in fewer events, moreso that they will need to attain some standard before they gain their bonus! This was more evident in this years edition of Dr. Olukoya U-18 Championships, which made some good athletes skipped some events to focus on their bests. Many best athletes skipped the 4x40m relay or had bad outing owing to the too short intervals between events. We coaches just have to adjust to put our athletes in vantage positions when the rush rush begins. Therefore,we have adjusted our preparations to accommodate our AFNs rush-rush... and set our fear-fear athletes up to be able to withstand ANY pressure during seasonal competitions. With the introduction of RUN IN EVENTS in form of individual time trials to make things easier and less competitive. We have the following categories: 1. Sprints: Many sprinters are afraid of 300m,so we put their RUN IN event at 220m individual trial on lane 8,the worst lane when you are running above 200m but less than 350m. An athletes performance would determine his or her next races lane allotment. Some boys could be reduced to running in women heats and vice versa. Breakdown= 220m(run in=idividual time trials),16 athletes only to qualify for next round or semi-final=150m full curve. After which only 6 athletes would qualify based on best times not placements. The final event for sprinters is 80m which 2 sprint hurdlers would join the 6 from 150m race 2. Quarter-milers category=450m individual run in or male versus female with head start on lane 4. 12 athletes to qualify for next race/semi-final=300m curve to curve,4 best hurdlers choose to join this 12 qualifiers. The final event for this group=220m(lanes by ballot). Lane 1 runs 110m curve...lane 8=130m curve! Unless an athlete chooses to run on outer lane after picking an inner lane. Boys who didnt make it to this final can join the women final.. 3a. Hurdlers=(400hurdlers): 300mhurdles entry event, only 4 lanes are available, and lane allotment is by ballot. Best 4 qualify for 300m curve to curve, and may advance to run in the 220m final or choose to run the 60mh final(400mhurdles height),while sprint hurdlers use full height. 3b. Sprint hurdlers=220 run in if combined athlete or competes also in 100m/200m competitively. And best 12 hurdlers that run the 220m qualify for 150mhurdles with 5 strides(regular lead leg) or 6 strides inbetween hurdles(irregular)especially 400mhurdlers. Dimension=female=13m to1st hurdle,12.8m inbetween and 21.8m to finish line. 400m hurdles height. Male=13.7m to 1st hurdle,13.8m inbetween hurdles and 12.1m to finish line. Only 4 will qualify for 60mh final. And best 2 to join in 80m final. 4. Race walkers=10kmTrack = mixed race with 10mins head start for women.. 5. Middle Distance=1000m competitive 1st race,a must before final=600m open race for every athlete that ran any race. 6. Throws= Only shot put can be featured because of the highly reserved synthetic Gateway FC soccer pitch! If many throwers turn up,we shall advance to our training venue. And10 throw trials for each competitor. Best athletes only shall run in the 220m final A,and final B is open to all athletes who ran at least an event. This final B would be a mixed race, with females on the inner lanes by ballot and males by ballot also outside the women (WEmen!). Athletes should bring their starting blocks and throwing implements...,we shall measure to ascertain the weight of all implements. Thank you,and make sure to test yourself over these events especially hurdlers over the outlined dimensions above. Next edition=Friday 21st March 2014 at MKO stadium Kuto Abeokuta. Race walking would start at 7am.
