ABERBARGOED BUDS NAME NEW CHAIRMAN FORMER Newport County player-boss John Lewis has been appointed as Welsh League Division Two side Aberbargoed Buds new chairman. Its a family affair at The Recreation Ground as Lewis wife Gillian has been named as the clubs secretary until the end of the current 2014-15 season. The pair were have taken over the respective positions from Gary Thomas and Mark Giffard, who both recently resigned. “I am delighted to take over the helm, although there is much hard work ahead for us to ensure we are operating on an even keel financially,” remarked John Lewis, who confirmed the club needs to appoint a youth-team manager. “Matters on the pitch are going well as as our firsts are third in the table, the youth are top of their league and we have some very promising young players coming through. “Its all about managing the running costs. We are a very small committee (six people) and the club runs eight teams. “One of the things we insist on is every player sells five of our lottery tickets each week and that generates much-needed revenue. “Its up to the committee to make sure the club is sustainable and I am more than happy to return to this club, which has great potential.” Tredegar-born Lewis returns after leaving Aberbargoed earlier this season as director-of-football and he has also been a player, player-manager and coach with the club Promotion contenders Aberbargoed are next in action on Saturday, when they entertain relegation-threatened Penrhiwceiber Rangers, kick off 2.00pm.
