ABIGAIL THE WIFE OF NABAL (PART 3). In the Bible Abigail is called the wife of Nabal, even after she had married David. Abigail had first been married to Nabal, before she was married to David. The same thing also of Bathsheba, the wife Uriah. She is called Bathsheba the wife of Uriah, even after her husband had died, and she had been married to David. David represents Christ in the Bible, the Beloved. Also, Nabal represents the flesh, that which tends to the flesh, in the Bible. The Bible says unless a man is born again, he can not see the kingdom of God. Even though we are born again, we are still in the flesh, though we need not be led by the flesh, but we need to be led by the Spirit, by the Spirit of God. Many people, they say they are Christians, they always want to deny the flesh, as if the flesh were no more there. They want to stop sinning, they have their own righteousness. But the righteousness of God is, even though we are married to David, we are still the wife of Nabal. We are still under the flesh, but we no longer walk according to the flesh, but we are led by the Spirit of God. The righteousness of God is, even though we are still in the flesh, we no longer walk according to the flesh, but we walk according to the Spirit of God. Concerning what was written above, in a previous post, this is a question a friend asked: what does it mean to walk according to the Spirit of God, please? This is how I answered: Matthew 16:13-28 13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ. 21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. 23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. 24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. 28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. We have our thoughts, and there are the thoughts of the Lord. When we follow our thoughts we go our own way, but when we allow the thoughts of the Lord to be our thoughts, when we are one with him (through his Word), we walk according to the Spirit. Another friend asked this question: Hw do we know our own thoughts and the thoughts of God? I answered like this: Jesus told his disciples he would be crucified. Peter took Jesus to one side and rebuked him for saying so. When Peter did this Jesus called Peter Satan, for he did not savour the things of God, but of men. Previously Peter had acknowledged Christ. Peter had acknowledged Christ as the Son of God. Christ called him Peter (Petros, little rock) and said on this rock (Petra, big rock) he would build his church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. We could follow Christ, or our way. The way of Christ are the commandments of the Lord, the word of God, Christ, that our sins have been forgiven. This is the way of Christ, and that we put faith in his name. Through faith in his name, we receive grace. Everything follows from this. Everything follows from this, that Christ died for our sins, and took all our sins away, this is the way of Christ. But our own way is if we do not believe all our sins have been washed, and all the belief system based on this, and the lifestyle also. The things of men, those are our thoughts, but the things of Christ, those are thoughts of Christ, the Word of God. In the passage from Matthew 16 from which the story of Peter rebuking Jesus is taken, Jesus after rebuking Peter says, if any man would come after me let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me. Jesus says we should take up our cross daily, Christ died on the cross, he took all our sins away, our belief system must be based entirely on the fact Jesus took all our sins away, past, present, and future sins - John 1:12.
