ABOLISH THE SENATE & PORK BARREL The General Appropriations Act - TopicsExpress

ABOLISH THE SENATE & PORK BARREL The General Appropriations Act shows that the cost of having a Senate with 24 senators is 3.3 billion pesos a year while the cost of having a House of Representatives with 294 representatives is 6.4 billion pesos. Clearly, when the people have to maintain a 24-man Senate at practically half the cost of a 294-man House, it is not cost-effective by any business standard. The ratio of cost to each member is absolutely disproportionate. We need a House of Representatives so that the people can be represented at the district level, but we do not need a Senate which is just a talking and grandstanding shop. So we should abolish the Senate and just have a unicameral legislature. Also, the pork barrel needs to be abolished, thus saving 25 billion pesos. Without a Senate and a pork barrel, total savings will be 28.3 billion.
