ABOUNDING LOVE SWEET SURRENDER Few souls understand what God would accomplish in them if they were to abandon themselves unreservedly to Him and if they were to allow His grace to mold them accordingly. —IGNATIUS The reason why many are still troubled, still seeking, still making little forward progress is because they haven’t yet come to the end of themselves. We’re still trying to give orders, and interfering with God’s work within us. —A. W. TOZER A MARK OF MATURITY IS our ability to surrender: to relinquish possession, power, authority or control to another. Surrender is a response on our part— an openness or willingness to receive. The author David R. Hawkins said , “Devotion enables surrender of the mind’s vanities and cherished illusions so that it progressively becomes more free and more open to the light of Truth.” A. W . Tozer said, “The degree of blessing enjoyed by any man will correspond exactly with the completeness of God’s victory over us.” Are we open to receive God’s love— knowing the more we receive love, the more freedom and power we walk in? How much you surrender will depend on the clarity of your vision. Mother Teresa had a very clear Word from God: “to love and serve the poor and to see Jesus in everyone.” She surrendered to God’s call on her life and left the convent to live with the poor. Her ministry grew and in the 1990s had more than one million coworkers in more than forty countries. Prayer is a very effective way of surrendering our will to God’s. It is only when God is in control and we align with Him that we experience the power of His love flowing through us to accomplish His plan. Jesus prayed to the Father saying, “If it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt” (Matthew 26: 39). Have you abandoned your will to surrender to God’s? Was love a factor in your yielding? What aligned in your life to the spiritual? What does it mean to experience real power? Did God give you a clear vision of His will in a particular area? In many ways these benchmarks are measurements of our ability to give, receive, and grow in love. Love is the moving force of the universe. It is the force that causes all people to live rightly and to respond properly in every situation.
