ABOUT 400 men from Manilla joined Australia’s WWI Army to fight - TopicsExpress

ABOUT 400 men from Manilla joined Australia’s WWI Army to fight in the Middle East and on the Western Front, with 70 or so not coming home. It was a great honour to launch on Saturday the book “Men of Marble” detailing the history of those names inscribed on the Manilla WWI Memorial. Many of those names within the covers of this great book still live in the Manilla community. In fact the first two names on the roll are relations of my wife’s family. Congratulations to the research authors Denis Creer and Shirley Coote - this is a fine book that will help us to remember those who served as well those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Barnaby is pictured chatting with Manilla Historical Society members, Denis Creer, Ian Bignall and Shirley Coote prior to the book launch. Barnaby draws the raffle from a bucket held by Ian Bignall.
