ABOUT RUST PROOFING Some have had concerns as to whether or not to rust prove their vehicle or not. Ive worked on car models that were made from the late 60s to the late 90s and found rust in many places but cars from 2000 to 2010 I found little or no rust at all. In general new cars today are well protected from rust right from the factory compared to the older cars. As well as having less steel and more plastic and better water drainage holes in doors and the body of the car. There is NO need to rust proof a new car for the first 4yrs at least because its already had some rust protective treatment from the factory. So dont let the dealer convince you to get your new car rust treated its a scam, ITS NOT NEEDED. To rust proof a vehicle properly it involves removing panels and some plastic coverings both inside and outside the vehicle which many times gets scratched or damaged when being removed or getting re-assembled. The red Ford RS below in pic 2 is a 2005 model. I rust proofed it early this year and there was no rust inside panels anywhere on car even when i stripped it as seen in pic 1. I only found some minor paint peeling on side door and its 9yrs old. I dont own it now but its protected from the wet season for the owner. The key is to made sure all the drainage holes are clean as mentioned in my other post. Because if you have drainage holes that are blocked it will still eventually rust! I dont buy any rust proof solution to me its a waste of money but Im old school if it works no need to change it. I use a quality motor oil and spray it inside all the door panels after I had vacumed and cleaned then spray inside body panels and under the shassy holes until it drips out. Then i spray a special white lithiam grease from a can that comes out as a liquid then foams up and fills and seals all the seams. I then wipe access and re assemble car. To be honest ive never had to rust proof a car more than twice and in the Philippines only once. The T6 Rangers have good drainage holes and no need to rust proof them they already come out treated from the factory. Just make sure you check the drainage holes and wash under shassy well after driving off road. God bless you.
