ABRAHAM AND LOT Genesis 13:12-17: 12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom. 13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD. 14 The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. 15 All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. 16 I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. 17 Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you. Abraham is an example of a worshipping believer and Lot is an example of a worldly believer. Lot was Abrahams nephew and was with him until their herds both became so big that they were forced to part ways. Abraham stayed in the mountains of Canaan close to God while Lot moved to the wicked city of Sodom. We dont know why Lot choose Sodom? Maybe it was the money to be made there? Scripture doesnt tell us. Sodom became so evil that the Lord had to destroy it. Abraham interceded for Lot with the Lord, ..would you also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Gen. 18:23. The Lord answered that He would not destroy Sodom if there were ten righteous there but there was only Lot. Lot was the only man there who was not excessively wicked. Lot was saved because he heeded the command of the angels, the Lord sent to rescue him, and fled but he lost his wife, who looked back, and his daughters were also corrupted by living in Sodom. They survived but got their father drunk, slept with him, and became pregnant by him. While Abraham worshipped and was blessed Lot was worldly and lost everything though he himself was saved. Abraham became the father of the people of Israel, Gods chosen people through whom came CHRIST our Lord. Lot became the father by incest of Moabites and the people of Ammon which were wicked nations. There are always bad consequences to being a worldly believer!
