AC MEET ON 21stJAN2015. It is a matter of regret that the Academic Council of DU comprising senior professors, principals and elected teachers chose to accept the UGC note on Choice Based Credit System without sending it to university departments, colleges and dusu for wider debates amongst the concerned stake holders. One keeps bemoaning the death of autonomy of university systems ?? But preservation of university autonomy is dependent solely upon intellectual courage and capacity to exercise academic frredom of those who are managing the university system. Our senior academic have consistently and miserably failed to show any intellectual or moral courage to preserve autonomous functioning of universities. Only 14 elected teacher representatives recorded their dissent through separate resolutions. I am using inverted commas to indicate that dissent was recorded for electoral claims. No indepth debate took place. Only AK Bhagi tried to engage the Academic Council in an informed debate. It seems major groups were in fact keen that AC adopts ugc note on cbcs so that these groups can later milk it for some short term electoral gains. Regrettable !! I hope the stake holders shall still discuss this issue so that the ugc/mhrd can be influenced.
