AC Milan forward Jeremy Menez has revealed that he turned down the chance to join Manchester United four years ago. The 27-year old Frenchman was with AS Roma in 2010 when Sir Alex Ferguson showed significant interest in him but opted to remain in Italy before moving to Paris Saint-Germain the following year. Now Menez finds himself back in the Serie A with the Rossoneri and has enjoyed a strong start with three goals in two outings and suggests his decision to reject United’s advances when he was still developing has helped him grow into the player he is today. “Saying no to Ferguson wasn’t easy, but I was still young and I had to follow my own path,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport. Then when [former boss Vincenzo] Montella came to Roma, it became difficult for everybody. Before he came, I was playing all the time, but he had different ideas. I was then a first-team regular at Paris Saint-Germain under Carlo Ancelotti , but Laurent Blanc came along and he dropped me. After an operation, I came back and scored, but nothing changed. I accepted his decision, even if it was hard, he added. “It was a difficult year, but it helped me grow.
