ACA football wins again, off to 2-0 start By Ed Castro, Redlands Daily Facts Posted: 09/07/13, 11:57 PM PDT | REDLANDS - Arrowhead Christian’s football team is on a winning streak. The Eagles have opened the season with two straight wins, a feat ACA hadn’t accomplished since the 2009 season when it finished third in the Christian League. On Friday a 42-28 win over the California Military Institute improved ACA to 2-0. “The guys have really worked hard and have earned it,” ACA coach John Beck. Win, lose or draw, I want this for the guys. I want them to experience the positive of what they have been working for. It’s great to finally get to see them enjoy some of that.” Friday’s win was another big one for ACA’s offense. The Eagles produced 460 yards in total offense, led again by quarterback Bradley Mowbray. The junior completed nine of his 16 passes for 297 yards and threw for five touchdowns. Mowbray also picked off two passes. Bradley’s cousin Isaac caught three of those passes for 141 yards and three TDs. Johnny Nguyen caught three passes and a touchdown and Ezekiel Marron caught a touchdown pass as well. And junior running back Matthew Kesuma ran for TD. “I just think we were prepared,” Beck said. “We knew who we had. I’m not sure that it is all that surprising. What may be surprising is how we have dealt with adversity in comparison to years past.” ACA led 35-7 at the half. Then California Military Institute rallied to make it respectable. “In the second half they really came out strong,” Beck said. “We struggled against them. The score doesn’t say it but they had a better second half that we did. We watched the film and showed the kids what we need to work on.” ACA led 35-7 at the half, which allowed the Eagles to rotate players late in the game. “That’s important to us,” Beck said. “We have a lot of guys who go both ways; we run a no huddle offense. The bigger the lead, the better off we will be in the long run.” ACA will hosts its home opener on Friday against Riverside Christian.
