ACA pulls off upset with win over Brethren Christian By Ed Castro, Redlands Daily Facts Posted: 08/31/13, 10:46 PM PDT | Arrowhead Christian football coach John Beck said he felt good about what his team could this year. But did he feel good enough to imagine his team producing a 40-point effort and a late game rally that would lead to a victory? Apparently so and winning just once in its last 20 outings didn’t do much to slow the Eagles down either. ACA traveled to Huntington Beach on Friday and returned home with a 43-21 season opening victory over Brethren Christian. It was ACA’s first season opening victory since 2009 and just the fourth season opening win for ACA in 10 years. “It’s wonderful,” Beck said. “It’s a nice way to start the season. It’s the first 1-0 start since I’ve been here and we didn’t against a quality opponent.” ACA led 20-7 but eventually had to rally from behind to secure the win. “It’s hard to see it as a comeback because we were up 20-7,” Beck said. “They came back on us and we came back on them. It tells me our kids are more resilient than in years past. It’s definitely a different Eagles team.” ACA (1-0) plays at the California Military Institute in Perris on Friday. “This is a team we felt could do well this season,” Beck said. “We just have to continue to push forward.” It was a big night for new ACA quarterback Bradley Mowbray. Mowbray scored five touchdowns and produced 325 yards in total offense. He completed 11 of his 21 passes for 151 yards and finished with 37 carries for 174 yards. He threw two TD passes and ran for two others. And Mowbray also returned an interception for a touchdown. “Bradley was the man,” Beck said. “He definitely has the competitive spirit that is hard to match.” Mowbray his brother Isaac for a 38-yard scoring strike near the end of the third quarter to give ACA the lead for good. “There were a lot of big dudes on that team,” Beck said. “They were bigger and stronger than we were. But we’re a pretty tenacious group of young men and we’re playing hard.”
