ACADEMY OF ANCIENT MUSIC The Baroque Trumpet / Sunday 22nd - TopicsExpress

ACADEMY OF ANCIENT MUSIC The Baroque Trumpet / Sunday 22nd February at 7.30pm Trumpet superstar Tine Thing Helseth makes her AAM debut in a programme that celebrates the power and glory of baroque works for trumpet from across Europe. During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the art of trumpet playing was dominated by a small number of fearless virtuoso performers. They developed flamboyant playing styles that set them apart from fellow trumpeters employed by the military to sound alarms or perform loud outdoor music. Above all, they exploited the trumpet’s super-high ‘clarino’ register. The finest navigators of the instrument’s stratosphere secured lucrative jobs at Europe’s wealthiest or most cultured courts; they, in turn, inspired court and civic composers to write astonishing music for them. Georg Philipp Telemann’s majestic Concerto in D major crowns this evening’s programme. Telemann, Bach’s contemporary and friend, wrote extensively for some of the most talented trumpeters of the age. His concerto for three trumpets was created and first performed in Frankfurt to celebrate the birth in 1716 of Prince Leopold, Archduke of Austria. Programme Bach - Sinfonias from Cantatas BWV 29,150 & 249 Biber - Sonata No.10 in G minor (trumpet & strings) Corelli - Sonata a quattro Vivaldi - Concerto in C major for two trumpets Telemann - Concerto in D major for three trumpets Tine Thing Helseth - Trumpet David Blackadder - Trumpet Tickets: £25 & £20 (£23 & £18 concessions (except senior citizen)) & £5 U25’s Box Office: 01284 758000 Book Online: https://theapex.co.uk/whats-on/event/1439/academy-of-ancient-music
