ACCOUNTANCY PROGRAM: A mismatch solution Personally, I dont think any Accountancy Major takes their Accounting and Law subjects for granted. In fact, if we only have more time to study and more problems to solve with, WE WILL SEIZE THEM, GLADLY! But sometimes, even if we work our asses off, we still do fail and its not because we didnt study well enough. Its also because its too damn difficult (professors also factors with). Its a problem-solution mismatch. Ceteris paribus, I think there is a problem in the curriculum. San Beda still ranks well among the schools that also offer the program given the obvious difference in curriculum with the top contending schools of La Salle and UST. This means that the students SBC are good but not well prepared to take board. Our low passing rate vis-a-viś our high-passing counterparts is a reflection that the program needs to be RENEWED since most if not all, have adjusted their curriculum to prepare their students for the board. Let us take the example the 4th year curriculum especially during the 2nd semester. Most of those subjects are board subjects btw. During the 2nd semester, everything is fast-tracked just in time for graduation, right? When your law subjects are expecting you to be like law students even if the subject will just appear in the board for 1-2 questions, youre lucky. Apparently, in La Salle (96% passing rate) it is taught to them by lecture and not by freaking recitations. Obviously, I think it works, right? When you still have freaking minor subjects to deal with during your 3rd year and 4th year, which supposedly drum up your momentum to focus ONLY ON YOUR ACCOUNTING SUBJECTS, are dividing your attention. Fine, its for holistic development, but its nothing comparable to having the CPA title that would give you a whole lot of advantages rather than knowing Human Bio, Earth Sci, Pepba, theology1,2,3,4,5...infinity! Lastly, we have the PAPAT, which is suppose to be the filtering test, a lot of students who failed it just had to retake it during the summer and poof, 2nd year! So yeah, its DISPOSAL and UNFAIR to those who passed. Even if your student will get the 70% passing rate without changing anything at the academic curriculum, they will pass at an expense. Maybe at the expense of their minor subjects or reviewing longer with those centers who can fill the gaps that you obviously created. - CreditMeansToTheLeft, Senior, Male
