ACF tells Boko Haram to cease fire FRIDAY, 09 SEPTEMBER 2011 22:07 DAUDA R PAM, MAIDUGURI THE Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has appealed to the members of the Jamatul Ahlis Sunnah lid Daawa wal Jihad otherwise known as Boko Haram to cease fire and come out to dialogue with the Federal Government in order to restore peace to Borno state and the country at large. The ACF, led by its Chairman, Alhaji Aliko Mohammed made the appeal at a courtesy call on Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state at the Government House Maiduguri. Speaking on behalf of the forum, Alhaji Aliko Mohammed said they were in Maiduguri to sympathize with the government and people of Borno State over the destruction of lives abd properties as a result of bombings and shooting going on in the historic city of Maiduguri . “This delegation, as well as all the elders and members of the ACF have no doubt in our minds that the sprit of forgiveness and reconciliation offers the only viable prospect of sustainable peace now and in the future. We have indeed no hesitation in endorsing the courageous position taken by Governor Kashim Shettima and urge him to pursue it to its logical conclusion”, the chairman said. The forum stated that fighting fist-to-fist for five minutes by any two members of the same family would have been thought to last too long and quite unnatural, adding that the violent campaign being waged by members of the Yussufiyya movement had gone on since 2009, which was over 500 days, and appealed to aggrieved persons regardless of origin or history to sheath their swords. The Chairman, on behalf of the forum, donated the sum of N one million Naira to Boko Haram crises victims and prayed God that peace would soon be restored to the state. Responding, Governor Kashim Shettima thanked the delegation for the visit and the donation and prayed God for their safe journey back to their various destinations. He also assured the ACF that everything possible would be done to restor peace to the state.
