Iriarte named Master of Chamorro Chant Guampdm, 16 October 2014, USA A man who revitalized ancient Chamorro chants has been honored with the title Sainan Minenhalom Manlålai Chamorro, or Master of Chamorro Chant. The Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency yesterday awarded the title to Leonard Iriarte during a ceremony at the University of Guam. Iriarte started his journey to revitalize Chamorro chant after he went to the 1976 Festival of the Pacific Arts and saw that Chamorros didnt have a traditional art form.
