ACP holds climbing competition on International Women Day 2014. Alpine Club of Pakistan celebrated International Women’s Day by holding Women Rock & Sport Climbing Competitions on 08 and 09 March 2014 at Islamabad. About 100 girls from different walks of life participated in these competitions. The theme of the competition was “Equality for Women is Progress for All” which emphasizes on gender equality, empowerment of women and women’s full enjoyment of human rights that are essential to economic and social development. Rock Climbing Competition was held on 8th March at Saidpur, Margallah Hills, Islamabad where apart from the competition girls enjoyed the nature scenic beauty of rocks. The participants were briefed about the environment and importance of climbing. They also enjoyed scenic beauty of the Margllah Hills. Sport Climbing Competition was held on 9th March at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad in which girls showed their full zeal and zest to climb the wall speedily. The technical support was extended by the girls themselves which included Ms. Asma Khalil, Madeha Laraib, Kiran. Ms. Ammarah Anum, Ms. Komal Iqbal and Ms. Saba Javed got 1st 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in Rock Climbing whereas Ms. Saba Javed, Ms. Zainab Mushtaq and Ms. Ammarah Anum secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in Sport Climbing Competition. Special shield was awarded to Ms. Sehrish. The winners of All Pakistan Sport Climbing Championship were also awarded shields at this occasion. These include Azam Ali Mughal, Jamsheed Akhtar, Zaheer Ahmad, Sehrish, Hira Bibi, Salma Naeem, Faiza Bokhari, Saad Mehmood, Husnain Ahmed, Bilal Qadeer, Hanzala Hussain and Umar Bilal. Prize Distribution ceremony was held at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad. Mr. Agha Amjadullah was the Chief Guest at this occasion who after distribution of shields to the position holders and certificates to all the participants, assured that Pakistan Sports Board shall continue to support such endeavors for the promotion of the sports. He appreciated the efforts of the Alpine Club of Pakistan for promotion of climbing in Pakistan and arranging special event on the eve of International Women’s Day. Mr. Saad Tariq Siddiqi, Vice President of ACP lauded the performance of girls they have shown while climbing. He said that ACP shall continue to provide opportunity for training, practice and competition of rock and sport climbing. Mr. Abu Zafar Sadiq, Rehmatullah Qureshi, Mr. Zaheer, Anas, Muhammad Abdullah, Abdul Rehman, Azam Balti were also present at the occasion.
