Thank YOU - TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE LETTER: TO The Prime minister of Mauritius / MPs of Mauritius Please stop the cruel trade and export of monkeys for research. We, the undersigned, are shocked by the suffering inflicted on monkeys exported from Mauritius at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Germany. Their plight has been brought to light by an investigation carried out Soko-Tierschutz and BUAV. In addition to the terrible pain and suffering experienced by the monkeys following major surgery to implant chambers in the skull, we also believe that the use of primates in this fundamental research to study macaques’ brains is the wrong approach. There are better ways to do this research that do not inflict harm and suffering on animals Further - last week - PETA has revealed and documented the horrific abuse on BABY monkeys in the US NIH laboratory. Documents, hundreds of photographs, and more than 500 hours of never-before-seen high-definition videos taken inside this NIH facility, detailing the ongoing psychological abuse of baby monkeys in disgustingly cruel and archaic experiments. Babys are torn away from there mothers shortly after birth, forcefully subjected to trauma with not other comfort than a cloth to hold on to, infants less than one week old have their heads shaved and are used in brain-imagining experiments, week old primate infants are forced to inhale a drug to see if that will increase their ability to imitate human facial expressions…etc. etc. They are made to suffer from severe anxiety, aggression, depression, diarrhea, hair loss, and other physical and mental illnesses, as well as engaging in self-destructive behavior such as biting themselves and pulling out their own hair. We hope that you will not only be moved by what happens to primates exported from Mauritius, but will also be concerned about the negative impact that their suffering must have upon the international reputation of Mauritius. We appeal to you to end the trade and export of monkeys from Mauritius and to not allow any animal-experimentation in Mauritius. Sincerely, [Your name]
