ACTIVITY—3B Evan Longoria was removed from last night’s game after the 2nd inning due to irritation of the plantar fasciitis in his right foot…he remains under evaluation…the Rays have recalled INF Ryan Roberts from Triple-A Durham and optioned RH Alex Colome to Durham… in addition, RH Brandon Gomes has been returned from his rehab assignment and remains on the 15-day DL after experiencing discomfort in his strained right lat. ÊÊ Roberts, 32, had been optioned on June 18 to make room for OF Wil Myers…in 8 games at Durham he hit .276/.353/.310 with 4 RBI and a double while playing 2B (5 starts), 3B (1) and DH (2). ÊÊ Longoria enters tonight one of only 11 major league players who have started every game this season…in 2012, when Longoria missed 85 games due to a partially torn left hamstring, the Rays went 41-44 in his absence and scored only 3.86 R/G, compared to 47-27 and 4.79 R/G with him in the lineup. THE GOOD NEWS—The Rays will get their 2012 Cy Young Award winner LH David Price back on Tuesday in Houston, following a pair of rehab starts with Class-A Charlotte where he went 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA (7.1-IP, 4-H, 2-R, 1-ER, 3-BB, 12-SO)…the Rays are 21-20 since he was placed on the disabled list on May 16 with a left triceps strain. RAY MATTER—The Rays have dropped the last 2 games after winning their previous 3 in a row and 5 of 7…the Rays have lost 12 of their last 19 games since they were a season-high 7 games over .500 at end of play June 8…they now stand 7.0 GB in the AL East, only a half-game better than their season-high deficit (7.5 GB through May 2). ÊÊ Rays starting pitchers have worked at least 6 IP in 8 of their last 9 games, after failing to do so in 7 straight games prior to that. ÊÊ This homestand began a stretch leading into the All-Star break in which the Rays play 16 of 20 games at home…the Rays began the season 19-10 at home but have lost 8 of their last 12 home games since then (beginning June 9). ÊÊ The Rays are 21-15 when playing teams outside the AL East…they are 20-24 within the division, and 11 of those losses have been decided in the 9th inning or later. ÊÊ The Rays are 17-15 vs. teams who went to the postseason in 2012 (7-5 vs. BAL, 1-3 vs. DET, 5-5 vs. NYY, 3-0 vs. OAK, 1-2 vs. TEX).
