ACTOR SPOTLIGHT We’re excited to feature some of our unsung heroes of our production of “Young Frankenstein”! Every week we have featured two of our fantastic ensemble members who help make this show possible! Today we’re featuring two handsome and very talented gentlemen, Adler Hyatt and Jeffrey Martorell! 1. When did you know you wanted to pursue theatre as a hobby or profession? Adler: “I know I wanted to pursue theater as a profession when I was 15. It was the only thing I did that I had fun doing and I have been doing it ever since.” Jeff: “Pretty much as soon as I could talk.” 2. What was the first role you ever played? Adler: “The first role I ever played was Judas/John the Baptist in my middle school production of Godspell.” Jeff: “Kindergarten I was a shepherd in the Christmas play. First real role was Skelly Manor in Rymers of Eldritch.” 3. What is your proudest moment in theater? Adler: “My proudest moment in theater was during a production of Snow Angel by David Lindsay-Abaire. I finished my monologue and the audience laughed. This was the first laugh I ever got on stage.” Jeff: “Wow, thats truly a hard one. In a musical - Melvyn P. Thorpe, Best little Whorehouse in Texas, Shakespeare play - Falstaff, Merry Wives of Windsor, regular play Skelly Manor, Rymers of Eldritch.” 4. Whats the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you on stage? Adler: “The most embarrassing thing that happened to me on stage was as Bottom in Midsummer Nights Dream. While I was the donkey my tail fell off in the middle of a monologue and one of the fairy girls picked it up and shoved it down the back of my pants.” Jeff: While performing a scene I was supposed to suddenly jump over a los chair and land on my side with a magazine so I would look as if I had been relaxing there instead of being nervous. The stage manager had set the magazines in the wrong place and as I jumped over the chair I hit the magazine and slid off the set I was on into the lower part of the stage, about three feet. I had to not show pain and figure out how to handle this and keep the play going.” 5. Who do you owe the biggest thanks to and what advice did they give you? Adler: “I owe the biggest thanks to my family and my mentor for being so supportive and helping me discover my passion.” Jeff: “Again hard to answer. A teacher, Giselle Dover, who asked me after a scene if I believed in the words my character was speaking. At first I did not understand what she meant. She then said the scene was good and that I was a great Jeffrey delivering memorized lines in a good way, but that if I wanted the character to be real for the audience I had to find something in me that connected with the character so that I was not just reciting lines but actually meaning and feeling them. It was a big breakthrough to me and has helped me invest in and become a real character/person in each role. Jack Payne who truly taught me there are no small roles for an actor but rather challenges for an actor to fill every role to the best of their ability.” 6. What show would you like to see Rivertown Theaters do one day? Adler: “I would like to see Rivertown Theaters do Cabaret one day.” Jeff: “Enter Laughing” 7. What role do you hope to play one day? Adler: “My dream role would be the Lecturer in Reefer Madness.” Jeff: “Every one I get a chance to do, lol.” If you want the chance to see Adler & Jeffrey perform in our production of Young Frankenstein, get your tickets NOW!
