ADAAB of EID (Etiquette of Eid) ~ Takbeer on the day of Eid: This is one of the greatest sunnahs of this day, because of the words of Allah (interpretation of the meaning): “… (He [Allah] wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allah (say Takbeer – ‘Allahu Akbar’) for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him.” [The Quran al-Baqarah 2:185] ------>So you should say: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, laa ilaaha ill-Allah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa Lillaahi’l-hamd (Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, there is no god except Allah, Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, and all praise be to Allah). --------------->[Note: This takbeer is Sunnah according to the majority of scholars. It is Sunnah for both men & woman. Men should say it out loud, & women should say it quietly. The time for this takbeer begins when the sun sets on the night of Eid (i.e., the night before) & it ends when the Eid prayer begins.] ~ Ghusl (taking a bath): It is reported in a saheeh report in al-Muwatta’ & elsewhere that ‘Abd-Allah ibn ‘Umar used to take a bath on the day of al-Fitr before coming to the prayer-place. (al-Muwatta’ 428) ~ Eating before coming out: “The Messenger of Allah (SalAllahu Alayhi WaSallam) would not go out on the morning of Eid al-Fitr until he had eaten some DATES…and he would eat an ODD number.” (al-Bukhaari, 953) ~ Paying ZAKAT AL-FITR before Eid Prayer if not already done. It is obligatory upon every Muslim, male & female, young & old, free & slave and it must be paid BEFORE the Eid prayer: Prophet Muhammad (SalAllahu Alayhi WaSallam) enjoined Zakat-ul Fitr as a purification for the fasting person from idle and obscene talk, and to feed the poor. Whoever pays it before the (Eid) prayer, it is accepted zakaah, and whoever pays it after the prayer, it is (ordinary) charity [i.e. sadaqa]. [Abu Dawood (1609) & Ibn Majaah (1827) - Classed as hasan by al-Albaani] ~ Sending blessings upon Prophet Muhammad [SalAllahu Alayhi WaSallam] after making your dua on Eid: Prophet Muhammad (SalAllahu Alayhi WaSallam) said: “Every du’aa’ is kept back until you send blessings upon the Prophet (SalAllahu Alayhi WaSallam).” Narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Awsat, 1/220; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 4399. ~ Congratulating one another: It was narrated that Jubayr ibn Nufayr said: When the companions [RadhiAllahu Anhum] of Prophet Muhammad (SalAllahu Alayhi WaSallam) met one another on the day of Eid, they would say to one another, “Taqabbal Allahu minna wa minkum [i.e. May Allah accept (good deeds) from you and from us].”
