ADAMAWA GUBER: FINTIRI WON’T RUN IN 2015 – PDP — Sep 10, 2014 The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday insisted that acting governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, will not contest the 2015 governorship election. The party explained that Fintiri was meant to complete the tenure of former governor, Murtala Nyako, who was removed from office. National Secretary of PDP, Prof. Wale Oladipo, who stated this yesterday at the national secretariat of the party, noted that Fintiri was among the 14 aspirants who voluntarily signed an agreement last week that the next governor of the state in 2015 would emerge from Adamawa Central Senatorial District. The acting governor hails from Adamawa North. Responding to a question on whether Finitiri’s would go against the agreement, Prof Oladipo, who was secretary of the committee that brokered the agreement with the contestants, said, “No, no, no, he will not. Whoever wins now will not insist. I can assure you of that”. He said safeguards had been put in place to ensure that none of them reneges on the deal. He said: “We didn’t force any candidate to step down. What happened was, we pointed it out that it will be morally wrong for whoever wins now to contest the 2015 election – meaning that such a person will only rule the place till the expiration of original term of Murtala Nyako [in 2015], and eight of them voluntarily withdrew, saying that they would prefer to wait and contest the 2015 election. Nobody was forced. We don’t have a class captain in PDP.” The agreement, he noted, was “robust, solid and voluntary”, saying the party is ‘one big family’. He dismissed the speculation that the party was using the said agreement to take away the constitutional rights of the governor to contest. “The person himself was the one who said, ‘If I win, I will not contest’, so nobody is taking anything away. And in PDP, you should know that we are family. And we don’t have any domineering dictator here,” he said.
