ADAPTING THE QUALITY OF MUSIC EXPERTISE IN YOU TO BECOME A MUAZEEN. THE TURKEY EXPERIENCE. Turkey is a country where callers to prayer (Muazeen) are employed and paid by the government as professionals. Amongst these professional Muazeen, a yearly call to prayer competition is organized to determine who could call to prayer best and the winner is showered with lots of awards and gifts. During this years call to prayer competition, some of the participants interviewed stated how they made it into this noble profession. One of them stated that if he had not been a Muazeen he would have become a musician, but his father guided him and talked him into learning Quran and learning how to call to prayer the best way. His father told him, you can never get it wrong using the voice that God gives you to beautify the Quran and to call the adhan (Call to prayer) and at the same time you earn a living from it. He consequently mastered the call to prayer and used it well until one day somebody complained in his neighbourhood to the government authorities that his call to prayer was usually prolonged than that of other Muazeen. The authorities looked into the case and asked him to repeat what was complained of. He then called to prayer in his usual way. Having listened to his call to prayer, the official who looked into the petition moved close and kissed the Muazeen on the forehead and said Thank you for this beautiful way of call to prayer. If this is what they are complaining about please go and continue to do it. This is a call to prayer country, anyone who does not like that may leave the country.
