ADMIT CHILDREN AS YOUNG AS TWO YEARS TO SCHOOLS -suggests Ofsted chair: The head of Ofsted, Baroness Morgan has suggested that more children as young as two should be enrolled at school-based nurseries in an attempt to ‘raise dire standards of early education among large number of infants.’ She says that ‘early exposure to formal education is needed to eradicate the 19 month achievement gap between the rich and the poor pupils by the age of five.’ Although some critics claim that too much focus on the three-Rs at an early age damages children’s natural development, Baroness Morgan states that weak parenting, low educational attainment of parents, poor diets, poor housing amongst others are reasons for the gap between the affluent and disadvantaged in that group and believes that starting school earlier helps infants to be more prepared before they start formal schooling at five.
