ADMIT YOUR MISTAKES “He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” Proverb 28:13. Nothing is more draining than denial and nothing is more invigorating than a clean slate. David said, ‘my strength failed because of my iniquity…’ Psalms 31:10. Have you at anytime admitted mistakes or sin committed by you? If you can do it, it has a lot of benefits. One of which is that it turns that mistake around in your favour. Here are the benefits you stand to enjoy when you own up on a mistake: It allows you experience God’s forgiveness: God already knows about them anyway, but He won’t forgive you while you are busy making excuses and shifting blame. John says ‘If we confess... he will forgive our sins…’ – 1 John 1:9. It restores your emotional and physical energy: David’s strength failed because of his iniquity according to Psalms 31:10. Each time you reflect or suddenly remember any concealed mistakes or sin, it saps your courage to face the future. Besides, you become psychologically imbalanced. Hence, you are vulnerable to committing further blunders. It allows you to move on: Confession allows you to hit the ‘reset’ button and start again. It’s also important to draw a line between the past and the future in case you are tempted to repeat your behaviour. Finally, it lets you grow; Thomas Edison said failure taught him over a thousand ways not to make a light bulb! Now hear this, a therapist who graduated 34 years earlier later called the University of Oregon and admitted she had cheated on a final exam. Instead of revoking her degree, the University asked her to write an article on INTEGRITY. Similarly, a woman who completed walk around the world eventually confessed she traveled part-way in a support truck. She said, ‘I should not be remembered as the first woman to walk round the world when I cheated’. If you do not want to be eaten up from within like cancer, make your mistakes work for you instead of against you, starts with confessing them to God and soberly seek His amnesty. Today, God will heal every part of your life that is ailing. Own up now and turn your mistakes around. The Lord will turn your mistakes into miracles and your mess into messages in Jesus’ name.
