ADOPTABLE TRAINING DOG OF THE WEEK: HARLEY Like many of the dogs we rescue, Harleys start at life was sad. He and his brother were rescued from a woman who used to discipline and hit them with large kitchen utensils, such as wooden spoons and spatulas. We believe this abuse started when he was a puppy, and took a significant emotional toll on Harley, so he has been living with our trainer due to the severity of his fear. We are accustomed to working with rescue dogs that are afraid of men, but in this instance, Harleys fear was most notable with women. However, we are happy to report that through training and socialization Harley has overcome his fears and is ready for adoption! Harleys ideal adopter must be a strong pack leader who provides consistent structure balanced with affection and positive reinforcement ... this is particularly true with a female adopter, but we prefer to see him adopted by a man. Harley is great with other dogs, large and small, and would likely do better with other dogs in the home. He is not recommended for a family with small children.
