ADOPTING Before adopting a kitten from any organization there are a number of things you should consider: 1. Cats can live upwards of 15 years. Are you willing and able to keep a cat for that long? If you move, will you do everything possible to take the cat with you? Adoption means that you are becoming responsible for another living being for the rest of its life. That is a huge responsibility that should not be entered into lightly. 2. Are you aware of all the costs associated with having a cat? Cat food and litter are only two of the basic requirements. Are you able to afford to take the cat to the vet should the cat get sick and need medical care? Veterinary fees are not cheap. You may want to consider starting a savings account for that purpose putting $5 or $10 a week in it to ensure you have money available when the time comes. 3. If you rent, is your landlord okay with you having a cat? 4. If you have to move back with family for a period of time, would you be able to take the cat with you? Now that youve thought those things over we’ll explain to you what a Ca-r-ma Adoption entails. Carma pays to have all of the following procedures done for their kittens: • Feline leukemia and FIV test • Veterinary check • Treated for fleas, worms and/or ear mites if necessary • First vaccination • Booster vaccination four weeks later* • Spay or neuter at 6 months* • Total cost of the above procedures is between $250-300. What do we require from you? • A loving safe environment for our kittens • A commitment from you that you will treat this kitten as a part of your family and will provide for it for its entire life • Completion of an adoption application We also request that you consider making a charitable donation, suggested minimum of $75/cat or kitten, to assist us in continuing our work with cats and that you consider volunteering in some of the events we plan throughout the year.
