ADUN LIKAS urged State Govt to pull back SAFMA privatization which has only burdened the fishery sector and victimized the players & now causing fishing boats to cease operations by forcing unreasonable charges upon the fishery players ! Jus done PC with fishing boats association and owners to urge State Govt via Agriculture Ministry to intervene and resolve the problems in SAFMA jetty. GANGSTERISM INTIMIDATING TACTICS ? Private company has employed gangsterism tactics by placing several security at SAFMA jetty to force unreasonable fees upon the fishing boats operators. Many felt threatened and intimidated thus have made police reports and SAFMA Management have also been informed but nothing was done to rectify the hostile situation for a week or more now. I have debated this issue in Dewan and we have submitted memo to CM Datuk Musa Aman and yet problems still persist. FORCED TO CEASE OPERATIONS During this low season, fishery operators can hardly break even depending on outcome of their shipping trips and if they still pay these unreasonable fee, they will be making losses. Thus today fishing boat owners have collectively made a decision to cease operations till authorities rectify this problem.
