ADVENT MEDITATION, Dec 12: Read Micah 5:2-5a Here is the birthplace and ministry of the Messiah. Messiah, in Hebrew, means one anointed for a purpose of God. The small town of Bethlehem, south of Jerusalem, was in a fertile, grain-producing land. That may be how it got its name which means the house of bread. To distinguish it from any other Bethlehem, this one was identified as in Judah or more specifically it was identified as Ephrathah which means fruitful. The setting of the small book of Ruth begins and ends in Bethlehem. In our passage in Micah we have just read, the eternal Spirit of God, tells us that this small town shall be the birthplace of the Messiah. He is identified here as the One to be the Ruler in Israel. He is also identified with God in the last of verse 2 as the One whose goings forth are from of old, even from everlasting. This could be no normal human being for every normal human being has a time when he begins. This One has been around from of old and going forth from everlasting. Messiah would have the characteristics of One who is everlasting. Who but God occupies such biblical description? Micah, by inspiration of God, tells us that God is going to give them up until the one in labor gives birth to Him. This is a statement about the inter-testamental period from Malachi to Matthew in which God was quiet for so long in the transition from the Old Testament to the New Testament. This is the period from the return to the land and rebuilding of Jerusalem and the temple until the time of Christs birth. David had been born in Bethlehem; now his offspring, the Everlasting King would be born there as well. He will bring back the scattered of Israel and feed His flock and they will dwell with Him. He will be a great ruler to the ends of the earth. He will be peace. Think about it. Grace and Peace. https://youtube/watch?v=ZP-G0GzfFsE
