ADVENT MEDITATION, Jan 05: Read Matthew 25:1-46 and Revelation 19:11-20:3 Wow, long reading today! This reading is about the fearsome coming of the LORD Jesus Christ the second time, His Second Advent! This one, in the Matthew 25 portion, has two parables teaching the importance of being prepared for His return; the other two portions of Scripture deal with the finality and violence of His second coming! It is not all peaches and cream and the soft living we have chosen in America today. It is not that easy in the rest of the world and many of our brothers and sisters are already experiencing the hardness of the days before His coming again. We are living in the good days of Grace right now. Those days will be brutal and totally uncertain. Today is the day of salvation that is easy to come to and receive. At the time of His second coming, life has been filled with terror, danger, betrayal, death and horrible judgments! It is hard to be ready for His coming and will require faith simply to survive those days. There will be many temptations to let it all go and blend in with the culture and its dominant value system. Surviving will depend on a good relationship with the wickedness of the day, if surviving is what is important. Such surviving will only be temporary at the best. Eternity follows such decisions, just as it does today! He will judge His own people and reward them for faithfulness but He will also judge those who have rebelled against His authority as benevolent as it was to them their whole lives! This day we are urged to consider carefully how important our redeem lives really are, how important Jesus really is and how prepared we really are for His coming. We leave you with the meditation of the Scriptures today. He is coming again and brings His reward for faithfulness with Him! Be ready!
