ADVICE - Many people feel comfortable asking for discounts or bargaining certain places, but few people feel comfortable doing the same with obscene medical bills. When I went to the Emergency Room for my anaphalyctic reaction to a wasp sting, they sent me a bill for $1900 for 5 minutes with a doctor and a steroid shot. When I disputed it, they didnt offer anything more than letting me make payments or a 10% discount if paid in full. Um, NO! My insurance company picked up about $1000 of it, but they were still saying my part was about $575. I told them that it was absurd they were charging that much for the services I received and that I would NOT pay over $250....and they settled with me for $250. Dont feel like you are stuck being ripped off by ANYONE. Fight for yourself and you might just win!
