ADVICE NEEDED: I have a woman who would like to donate to me a 6.5 year old warmblood mare with PSSM. All x-rays are clear, tendons are good, no stifle problems, never colic - just PSSM. The mare does low level dressage and is quite beautiful, but needs more movement in her life. The horse is currently only able to be turned out for 4 hours a day and then is in a box stall the rest of the time. The environment is not well suited to her and she keeps tying up. Supposedly turnout and exercise is key for horses with PSSM making my stable the perfect facility for her. My stables is a trail riding and lesson stables. Our horses are on turnout at least 14 hours every day. Each horse is also ridden at least 1-4 hours every day, depending on the schedule, with 1 day off a week. I would like advice from anyone that knows how to manage PSSM as to whether this is a good option for our stables.
