ADVICE TO ALL UNIZIK FRESHERS Chapter 1 Bravo!!! First and foremost, I will like you to thank God for making you successful out of the thousands that struggled for that particular position which you are now occupying. Now, this is the beginning of a new race. It doesnt matter what you were before you entered, whether you were the best in your secondary school or not, whether you had the best putme score in your department or not. Someone who managed to pass both his Jamb and post utme might turn out to be more settled for the new play and make better grades than the high post utme scorers. What Im trying to say in essence is that, dont let anything that happened to your score during your screening go into your head. What you must have been praying for is to gain admission and graduate with a very good result. Now you are admitted, I will like to enlighten you on some of the challenges you may face and if you disregard, they might shatter your rationale and prayers when you were seeking admission, because I know many spent sleepless night praying and reading to gain admission. First, make reading your habit if you have never done such. You will be faced with different courses( what you call subjects in secondary school) which will have their different textbooks and must be completely read through if you want to make a good result out of them, note that for all textbooks you must start reading it from the front cover( Name, Author, Publisher of the book e.t.c, to the back cover.). So many students are too narrow-minded, what do I mean? For example, you will see an engineering student who will always neglect anything concerning courses which do not concern maths, chemistry and physics. If you are one please note that you must battle with general studies courses which is also called A MUST PASS COURSES, without making at least a grade E in them, no graduation for you because you will continue carrying over till you face the fact. For all students would take GS courses like : ENGLISH, HISTORY OF NIGERIAN PEOPLE AND CULTURE, IGBO LANGUAGE ETC . Those like medical students and art students who disgust maths shall take maths courses, all these in Year 1. Form the habit of forcing yourself to read and understand even what you dont like to read. Note that making 1st class or failing is in your hand and it starts from your first semester. Chapter 2 The very day you keep company with a bad and unserious friend, that is when your dreams starts to shatter. Many will be there to deceive you, take you to clubs, play away your time when it is time to read, chasing a girl or a boy always that you hardly have time for yourself, live a pompous life, cultism e.t.c. These are failure agents. Some will tell you that it is impossible to pass a particular course unless you pay money to the lecturer or sleep with him( sleeping with lecturers applies to the female) please! Please!! Please!!! You can pass any course if and only if you finish its textbook because, once a text is prescribed, it is your duty to buy and read it from beginning to end, dont expect the lecturer to teach you everything inside, if you dont read it nobody cares. Immoral and devilish act like Lez and Gay is very rampant! Please beware! I think I shouldnt elaborate much on that because its what all of you know even more than I do. Always pray to God for strength to read and retain what youve read because, you cant do it on your own. Always be clean in appearance. Thou shall not fight in school unless anti-cult will give you the hottest slap of your life. VERY SOON YOU WILL SEE ALL THESE SO, I WISH YOU THE BEST.
