ADVICE TO POLITICAL PARTIES Here is another YOUNG CANDIDATE’S confession. It is important for Political Parties to learn from their past mistakes if they are committed to win future GE/ BE. Don’t accept any New/ Ex Political Candidates just for FIELDING purpose without screening for their suitability. Don’t treat Politics as a number game by contesting in more constituencies in the hope to win one or two. Politics is about staying “focus”, doing consistent ground works, building trust and confidence with Constituents through “Hands On” social work to help the Average Poor Singaporeans. POLITICS IS NOT LIP SERVICE ! You need to practise what you preach and help as many Average Poor Singaporeans as you can within your means and help of volunteers to “EARN” public respect and trust. Writing alternate policies will NOT help you to win any GE/ BE if you fail to communicate and convince your Constituents that your alternate policies work. If Constituents can’t trust a party and their candidates, you think they will trust their alternate policies to work ? Don’t anyhow accept New/ Ex Political Members as your Party Members without screening for their suitability. This will make your Party looks like a “REFUGEE PARTY” WITHOUT SUBSTANCE AND DISCIPLINE. Constituents will not respect your Party and Members needlesss to say build trust and confidence. You should start them as Party Volunteers and promote to Members, Party Leaders and Candidates if they prove themselves to be sincere, passionate, hardworking to help Singaporeans and the Party to grow. Respect and Promotion need to be earned, not given freely. What’s the point of having many CECs and Members who hold on to their status and laze around making use of Volunteers to do the dirty ground works for them and claim credit ? VOLUNTEERS ARE NOT DAFT ! If SGs, CECs, Candidates and Members are not “Hands On” to show their commitment and leadership to serve Singporeans and Party, don’t expect Volunteers to organise and lead projects for them. It is crucial for POLITICAL PARTIES to take deep consideration and assessment of YOUNG CANDIDATES mental, emotional and physical readiness to handle challenges and public expectations before fielding them for GE/ BE otherwise it will ADVERSELY affect the public image/ trust of the political parties/candidates. If Political Parties are not committed to UPHOLD their public image/ trust and SCREEN candidates carefully, how can they expect to win ? If you are a business owner, will you employ somebody who CANT deliver to tarnish the Companys reputation and affect customers confidence ? Quote Alex Tan Zhi Xiang There are a lot of expectations from us young politicians and it is indeed suffocating hearing advice from different well-intended people. I resigned from SPP and do not wish to commit myself to the party, because that means a lot of walkabouts, meeting the people, writing stances, expressing opinions and basically just doing anything to get popularity. Hah. It’s a drag, and honestly I am not a committed person like you and I’ve tried for a month or so, it’s tiring. We are not elected MPs, we don’t draw a salary and everything we do is out of goodwill. Simply put in, we are just like volunteers. It boils down to our primary purpose, for mine is just to remove the PAP out of power, contesting in GE2016 or not does not matters to me. therealsingapore/content/alex-tan-words-encouragement-nicole-seah
