AFC PROTESTS VENUE CHANGE AFC Leopards has protested the abrupt and suspect change of its premier league match venue from Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium to Awendo Grounds. In a letter addressed to KPL CEO Jack Oguda and copied to the FKF Secretary General Michael Esakwa, Leopards faulted KPL’s decision to give the controversial Awendo grounds a clean bill of health for the Sunday 3pm kick-off against Sony FC on hearsay without adhering to its own tradition of a security and safety committee inspecting the venue to clear it for competition. That was in response to a statement from KPL’s GMT Otieno ‘that the chairman of Sony Sugar FC has confirmed that the perimeter fence which was forcefully brought down during their match against Gormahia FC on September 1st 2013 has since been repaired’ Leopards also protested the fact that the club’s gentleman’s agreement with KPL to host Karuturi on Thursday at Kasarani on condition that the Sony match takes place at Nakuru has been violated blatantly. ‘It would obviously not be reasonably possible to travel all the way to Awendo, several kilometers away, in 48 hours (read two days) and honor such a crucial fixture’ read the statement signed by the Ag. CEO Richard Ekhalie. Leopards also cited insecurity and double standards as reason for the protest, noting that after violent encounters during the past two Sony/Gormahia matches, the atmosphere is not right for another high octane match at high risk Awendo grounds bearing in mind that Sony is fighting relegation while AFC Leopards is chasing honours. Leopards also opined that it will beat logic for FKF to outlaw AFC and Gormahia honoring any competitive fixture at a more secure City Stadium while allowing the same to play at the far much less secure and polarized Awendo Grounds...afcleopards.net
