AFC TELFORD v MACCLESFIELD.... In a game kindly sponsored by Quality Pipe Supports and the Match Ball, sponsored by James Rollason the Bucks raise the curtain on their home campaign, looking for a positive outcome – putting points on the board early. Macc, who faced a summer of uncertainty, kicked off their Vanarama Conference campaign with a home victory over last seasons’ surprise outfit Braintree Town courtesy of a 15th minute Chris Holroyd strike, in front of 1,309 supporters. Macclesfield, who struggled to name a full bench, if BBC reports are to be believed, looked to the outsider, to be very unstable, with coach Efe Sodje being released, then re-signed as Assistant Manager only a couple of days later. Managed by John Askey, Macclesfield will be looking to replicate the form that saw them finish last season in 15th position, ten points ahead of the drop zone and only six wins away from a play off place! A similar target that Telford will surely be aiming for this season, with a fair wind and the rub of the green along the way. For Telford the only injury concerns are with Chris Lever and Rod McDonald, who are still a week or so away from a return to action. The form of replacement left back, Andy Owens has softened that blow though with a sterling performance at full back in Saturday’s curtain raiser. Having played half a game with ten men and 38 minutes with nine, Bucks’ boss Liam Watson may look to make a few changes, freshening things up for the arrival of Macclesfield Town, looking at using some of the talent that he kept benched during the long trip south to Welling. ‘some people might think I should have freshened things up (against Welling) after going down to nine men, but I wanted the legs, the drive that players like Groags (Mike Grogan) and Faz (Adam Farrell) give you. The players I had on the bench would have kept the ball, but we needed that bit extra to win the ball and put the running in and that’s what you get with the ones I left on there and they didn’t disappoint.’ Cooke, Deacey, Gray and Hancock (who wasn’t in the match day squad at the weekend) will all be champing at the bit to be involved on Tuesday night, with the two sent off at Park View Road suspended for this fixture having their places up for grabs. Suspensions in the Vanarama Conference Premier taking effect immediately, unlike last season, where there was a weeks turnaround in terms of suspensions. With Phenix and Poku missing, the other members of the squad have the opportunity to stake a claim for a regular starting place
