AFC Wallasey Town v Wallasey Oval 9/11/14 The morning autumnal - TopicsExpress

AFC Wallasey Town v Wallasey Oval 9/11/14 The morning autumnal sun beamed down onto the glistening dew, illuminating the lush green pitch at Central Park. The sound of children playing and dogs barking with excitement soundtracked the walk of anticipation as the players made their way to the Pavillion to prepare. In the Wallasey Town changing room the group, fresh from back-to-back victories, took on board their jobs for today and stepped out onto the pitch for their promotion six-pointer local derby with Wallasey Oval. After an immaculate rememberence silence, the ref blew his whistle and the game got underway.....The next 90 minutes were shit. In the opening few minutes of the game Oval looked lively and fired up but Town didnt look themselves and couldnt string two passes together and looked under threat from the off. Oval were 3 up after 15 minutes and Town didnt know what had hit them. They came in at HT annoyed, dejected and 4-0 down. The second half started the same way and quickly it was 5,6,7...The Town heads were down and time seemed to slow. For the last 20 minutes there was a dramatic improvement but its hard to say whether it was great spirit or Wallasey Oval taking their foot off. A few chances for consolation narrowly missed and almost as if it was just one of those days, Oval squeezed in a couple more. FT 9-0. From a neutral perspective Oval played some great football and will be very difficult to stop if they play like that. But today Wallasey Town didnt play with the team spirit or teamwork thats set them apart this season and that has to return quickly if theyre to mount a serious promotion challenge. Nobody will be feeling they played well, so nobody can be criticised as an individual..today we sank together. Some lost their heads, some shrank, some tried and tried but it just wouldnt come off.. but I hope we hurt equally. Its the biggest setback in the clubs short history and next Sunday it will be very interesting to see if we have the character to bounce back. The Official Wallasey Town MOM goes to Dave Sullivan. Came on for the last 30 minutes of a game that was essentially finished, but he used the hour of frustration watching from the sidelines to show players that hes up for the battle. Hes probably reading this now thinking Ive got away with it , but Im sorry referee youve had a nightmare. Not the match, you got everything just about spot on...but letting your girlfriend wax your eyebrows?! Really?! Onwards and Upwards (it cant go downwards!) See you next week at Lingham Park to make amends Forza Wallasey Town !!
