AFRICAN TAILS Dear Suppawters, our phones are ringing off the hook regarding the story about little Dakota. We want to ask everyone to please consider that although the dog was bought from a breeder, the family got her as a gift to fill the gap of their beloved Dalmation that passed away a while ago. The puppy was checked by a vet in Jhb, who gave her a clean bill of health before sending her to her new home in Cape Town. She arrived, and the owners soon realised that something was wrong, and a vet here then confirmed she is deaf. Their decision to ask for help to re-home her was purely based on the fact that they do not have a suitable environment to home a deaf dog, and therefore did what they thought best for her - to ask for assistance to re-home her. She could just have been sent back to the breeder - and we have a good idea of what would have happened then. But because they cared enough, they reached out to find another way to give her a chance to go to a homne where she will receive the care a special needs animal has to have. So they have also had to endure some heartache here, and some comments have devistated them. Lets try to achieve something positive here - finding her the perfect home, and reminding ourselves of all the reasons to be careful when buying from breeders. We understand the passion you and we all have for these animals, but lets remember that this is where our focus should be, the animals.
