AFSF: How did the invitation to join the band come up? Did you have to take any test? Did you already know ADRIAN SMITH? Andy Makin: Oh I had to audition for that gig. There was an advert in Kerrang! magazine for a singer and my girlfriend at the time had sent off a demo tape I had. I didnt know anything about it until I had a phone call asking me to come down to London and try out. But the crazy thing was that it was Adrian himself who called me! Now, back in the day I was a huge Maiden fan, still am in fact, but when this guy on the other end of the phone says I dont know if youve heard of me, I was the guitar player in Iron Maiden I thought Nah, this guys having me on here, joking, right? Wrong!
