AFTER MASSIVE OUTPOURING OF DONATIONS, STEPHEN SILLER TUNNEL TO TOWERS FOUNDATION QUICKLY RAISES $250,000 TO BUY HOMES OF OFFICERS RAMOS AND LIU FOR THEIR FAMILIES CONTRIBUTIONS COMING IN FROM AS FARAWAY AS HAWAII , ITALY AND THE UK GOV. CUOMO THANKS ALL WHO HAVE RALLIED TO THIS CAUSE AS ORGANIZATION SAYS ITS GOAL IS TO RAISE ENTIRE $800,000 NEEDED TO BUY THE HOMES BY NEW YEARS DAY Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, announced Sunday that within two days of the press conference the foundation held to announce its pledge to purchase the homes of slain officers Liu and Ramos, it had received $250,000 in donations. Said Siller, We are thrilled that within such a brief period of time we are already one-third of the way towards our goal of raising the $800,000 needed for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation to buy the Liu and Ramos homes outright and present the houses to their grief-stricken families. We are honored that in addition to the wonderful people in our area, folks from as faraway as Hawaii, Italy and the UK--when they learned of the plight of the officers families and what our foundation is doing--went to our tunnel2towers.org website and made a donation. On Friday,Siller said at a press conference attended by Officer Lius wife and family members, as well as former Mayor Giuliani, who donated $20,000 to the effort, that Tunnel to Towers wants to raise all of the $800,000 needed to buy the two homes by New Years Day, so that the families can begin the new year with one less thing to worry about amid their grief. We couldnt be more grateful, Siller said.Now that we have already raised one-quarter of a million dollars, we are more confident than ever that we will be able to meet our goal. Siller said that the foundation took on that goal after hearing N.Y. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo say that the Liu family told him they were concerned how they would pay their mortgage going forward. When Governor Cuomo learned how quickly Tunnel to Towers had received $250,000 towards the purchase of the homes, he released a statement which read, This outpouring of generosity is another demonstration of how the family of New York, as well as caring individuals around the globe, are coming together to support the Ramos and Liu families after their heartbreaking losses. These funds will be of critical assistance to relieve both families of the worry of covering mortgage payments on their homes. I thank and commend all who have rallied to this cause.
