AFTERNOON TEA WITH JODY B., Friday, September 25, 2014: About 10:00 AM Mikes ICU nurse, (Joey Estrada, Jody Estrada :)), told me Mikes surgery was scheduled for 12:00 noon. I had such an eratic heart rate I wound up going down to ER and having and EKG done, just to make sure my heart wasnt running the Kentucky Derby. The only thing wrong with that was then they wanted to keep until they were sure nothing was going on with it. I said, Ill do the EKG and the X-Ray because my heart rate was eratic, but, Im going back before noon to ICU to be with my husband before he goes to surgery. I reminded them of this at 11:24 AM. At 11:48 I got up and started pulling off my wires and stickers and headed for an exit nurse. One of the staff tried to persuade me to hold on, and I said, Its twelve minutes until noon. You know where to find me if you need me, and Im going to be with my husband. The guy showed me the exit door. Mike said, Lets get this show on the road. Joey pointed out the surgery wasnt quite ready, and Mike said, Well, then, lets meet them halfway. The anesthesiology nurse didnt come to get him until shortly after 2:00 PM. They had all agreed they had a patient who needed them until then. Mike was still alert enough to know when Luke, Ashleigh and Logan arrived. He was awake when Pastor Dan and John Eakins arrived, and we all had a prayer circle for him, and my sister, Marion, my foster sister, Marjie, and my dad, Nolan, showed up right before they wheeled Mike off. I met the hospital chaplain today. I had a pleasant and meaningful dialogue with him, and he came in to pray with Mike and I too, around noon. Ive had some rough moments. Right now, Im in a pretty calm place. This wasnt what we wanted and hoped for, but we are praying God is with him, and that we will be able to have some sort of quality life on the other side of this. The Lord will go before us, the Lord is with us, the Lord will not leave us nor forsake us. Do not fear nor be dismayed...Fear not, little Lambs, for the Father has decided to give you the kingdom. However, this turns out, of one thing Im certain. Heaven is a wonderful place, and while I hope Mike doesnt go today, I most certainly hope he goes someday, so time is a relative thing, right? As far as I know, things are going fine, but my husband was all over the place last night in ICU. I simply have to let go and let God, and Im trying to do that. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you, and God bless.
