This is the first of a number of REFRAME: Screen Industries - Future Trends weekend workshops to be run by AFTRS Open during 2015. Following a structured process for shaping and framing a dynamic, narrative-driven storyworld for delivery across multiple platforms, Mike will take you through a series of exercises, concepts and templates that will challenge the way you think about writing and story development. (7 - 8 Mar) SCREEN DESIGN Introduction to Production Design Led by AFI-winning Production Designer Michael Philips (The Well, Garage Days, The Night We Called It A Day) this two-day course has been designed to familiarise you with everything you need to know to pursue a career in the Art Department with the goal of becoming a Production Designer. (31 Jan - 1 Feb) SOUND & SCREEN MUSIC Introduction to Location Sound Recording Rod Pascoe will show you how to use the latest sound recording techniques used in capturing speech and sound effects using portable recording equipment. The course is suitable for individuals who are currently working in the film and television industry as well as others seeking employment in the industry. (20 - 22 Mar) Introduction to Music Composition for the Screen If youve ever wondered how to draw an income from making your own music, this course over two weekends is for you. Tutor Matt McGowen will help you use your creative skills (in AFTRS state of the art facilities) to compose a two minute piece of music and learn how to integrate it with a piece of film. (21 - 29 Mar, 4 weekend sessions) CINEMATOGRAPHY Advanced Lighting Skills An advanced lighting course with cinematographer Louis Irving ACS (The Doctor Blake Mysteries, Bastard Boys, Love My Way). This course is for professionals wanting to expand their knowledge in lighting for film and television drama. Over three days, students will light a set to various scripted scenarios, and work with a gaffer, best boy, camera operator, grip and two actors in AFTRS state of the art studios. (28 - 30 Jan) Content Creation for iPhone/iPad: Online From the comfort of your keyboard, learn how to shoot quality videos with your iPhone or iPad and create stories on the go. Filmmaker and cinematographer Gareth Tillson will lead this four-week online course featuring video tutorials, weekly assignments and a weekly online chat session, where you will get real time feedback. (Starts 26 Feb, 4 evenings, online) Camera & Sound Basics Ideally suited to those who have limited camera and sound recording experience, this course will introduce participants to techniques and practical skills that will enable them to produce high quality images and sound for documentary and drama - with an eye to great storytelling, the goal of all good filmmaking. (14 - 15 Mar) Modern Cinematography with Ellery Ryan What is great cinematography, and how is it achieved? Course tutor Genevieve Ginty and other leading industry professionals will share their experience in the fundamental areas of TV, including reality, documentary, factual, studio shows, outside broadcast events and web content.
