AGAIN 3rd time: Im trying to be careful about what I share of these cases (at the advice of some of my friends who see things a bit differently)… Having said that, I now realize that even those of us who are aware of the kinds of abuses that occur at the hands of BAD cops are severely unaware of the frequency of these occurrences… Namely because its not covered in the media and the victims have little or no recourse (if you dont have money to afford a lawyer for a civil suit, that is)… You will hear these occurrences described as isolated events or not an indication of a cultural disconnect, racism or other… To that I say, that we should keep posting these things, because if what we are seeing are TRULY isolated events, then there wont be much for us to post… HOWEVER, if hundreds of these videos start appearing in social media, then those who see them as isolated incidents will have to ask a very important question… How many of these abuses need to happen and how regularly - by people charged with protecting and serving the public trust - must occur before we conclude that they indeed are NOT isolated, but speak to a larger societal ill? The posting of this video should not be taken to incite people to hate police… But also it should be noted that it isnt the posting of these videos that should be blamed for inciting distrust of police, but rather the unconstitutional and violent activity by those police who engage in activity that is to blame… I 100% support and have a tremendous respect for TRUE officers of the peace who protect and serve valiantly with their head and heart… But I also realize that the system around them makes it hard for them to push for change and accountability with out fear of retribution from those in law enforcement who work against it… So please tell these stories for those in America who dont know, wont see or cant see, but post responsibly.
