AGANG SA will be a home for all South Africans, especially minority communities. This is the view of struggle activist Asha Moodley, the wife of late black consciousness leader Strini. Moodley, who worked alongside Agang SA founder Dr Mamphele Ramphele in the Black Consciousness Movement, said she welcomed the new political party to the political landscape. “We live in a democracy and people are entitled to start their own political parties. It also gives citizens a bit of choice,” said Moodley. She said it was encouraging to see that Agang SA was appealing to a cross-section of people. “It certainly has an appeal for all South Africans and young people in particular and that’s important. We often see young people getting lost in the political dispensation, so to see so many young people at the launch is encouraging,” she said. Moodley said she knew Ramphele to be very committed. “I knew her as a fellow activist. She was very strong and determined but for any party to succeed you are going to have to put in the hard work. Personality will only get you so far, so they are going to have to roll up their sleeves and get working in the communities. The communities need to see them working and know who they are."
