AGE-LONG GAS FLARING IN ADIBAWA FLOWING STATION HAS BROUGHT DIFFERENT KIND OF SICKNESSES AND DISEASES TO THE PEOPLE OF JOINKRAMA COMMUNITIES IN AHOADA WEST L.G.A OF RIVERS STATE Crude oil exploration in Nigeria was first discovered in Oloibiri Southern Ijaw L.G.A of Bayelsa State in 1952 by Shell Petroleum Development Company Ltd and later discovered another oil well at Khana LGA of Rivers State and continue discovering in that order, discovered in Oba/Egbema Ndoni LGA of Rivers State as well as Adibawa flowing station in Ahoada West L.G.A, of Ondo Rivers State and later Delta State, Akwa Ibom State and other parts of Nigeria and ever since then till date, gas flaring has been going on and on and no solution to stop gas flaring in Nigeria. Oloibori Community where Crude Oil was first discovered in Nigeria is so primitive and is absolutely nothing to write home about and no any form of development in that community. In Adibawa flowing station in Joinkrama No. 4 Community in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State has suffered a great set back due to the age long gas flaring and oil spillages in that very community. The indigenes of Joinkrama No. 4 in Adibawa flowing station as well as the entire Joinkrama Communities in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State used to experience different kind of sicknesses and diseases both coral outbreak, tyford fever etc as a result of this ongoing gas flaring, oil spill ages and contaminated air and water. • Nigeria government on their on part has failed the people of Joinkrama Communities in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State as well as the entire Niger Delta Communities who are at the receiving end of the air burn disease emanated from the age long gas flaring blatantly refused to pass the petroleum industry Bill (P1B) into law which would’ve automatically put an end to gas flaring in Nigeria and save the lives of the people of Niger Delta Communities in Nigeria. The reason of the delays of the PIB passage into law by Nigeria government is still yet unknown. • Brawait memorial Hospital (BMH) Port Harcourt and University of Port Harcourt teaching hospital (UPTH) are victim of gas flaring and conterminated in water as a result of oil spill into the Creek and Rivers surrounding the Joinkrama Communities in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State and as a matter of fact, most of the patients in these hospitals come from Jorikrama Communities. I therefore, use this medium to kindly appeal to the Nigeria, federal lawmakers, senate and House of representatives, Mr. President and his entire cambinet as well as all well meaning Nigerians to proffer a lasting solution to this age-long gas flaring in our dear country Nigeria before our people will die finish as a result of gas flaring. As a matter of fact, this other side of the road where the refuse are normally dumped by the refuse manufacturers is gradually covering the Rumuodomaya/Rukpokwu Airport major road which also linked to outside Rivers State that is Elele to Owerri capital of Imo State and other States within Nigeria. From all indications, if nothing is quickly done by the authorities incharged to completely clear those dirts along this major road in question. Sooner than later, this particular major road will be blocked and become unpassable both car and pedestrians and indeed will affect the economic activities of Rivers State and of course other states and Nigeria in general in short, not only paralising the economic activities of Nigeria both health wise of the citizenry. What of those on emmengency rushing down to the closest Rumuodomaya primary health centre built by Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi led-administration in Rivers State sited at Rumuodomaya Community opposition for medical attention cannot pass through thereby cause an untimely death to the patients involved. Also, it will come to stage whereby the residents of this particular area will look for alternative due to the offensive odour emanating that heap of refuse dumped etc. As for those manufacturing the refuse on daily basis do not even care about the health implication towards themselves and the users of that particular road as well as those living around. All what they are after is to manufacturer dirts by any means possible and dump it indiscriminately without following laid down rules and guidelines by the state and federal ministry of health how to dispose refuse without causing health problems to the environment and inhabitants. Interest, the refuse manufacturers also suffer greatly on the diseases, odours and sicknesses that will be generated from the refuse dump. At this juncture, I respectfully implore the special attention of the Rivers State Honourable Commissioner for Health Dr. Samson Parker, the Elected Executive Governor of Rives State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and all the relevant agencies and authorities incharged of refuse evacuation in Port Harcourt city to quickly come to our aid before this particular worrisome issue at hand about the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in Rumuodomaya Community will cause an untimely death to the residents.
