AGENTS ON GERMAN’S TRAIL: Mysterious stranger is thought to be escaped sailor. The Sun March 30, 1917 Agents of the DOJ will investigate a report that a German, suspected of being an escaped sailor of one of the interned German ships, is at work on the farm of F.A. Griffith at Mitchellsville, Anne Arundel County. The German, who, it is said, can speak but little English, on Tuesday was at Glen Burnie and inquired at the general merchandise store of Andrew Jackson there where Mr. Griffith’s farm was. He had two suit cases, it is said, but no money. The man’s skin is somewhat tanned and this gave rise to the theory that he might have been a sailor. Because of his mysterious actions a resident of Glen Burnie notified the United States authorities.
