AGGRIEVED STUDENTS SET IMTS EXAMS BLOCK ON FIRE A block of the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu, was on Tuesday night allegedly set ablaze by some aggrieved students of the institution. The Nasa block, which houses the Examination Coordination office of the state owned polytechnic, went up in flames around 8:30 p.m. A source told DailyPost that the building may have been set ablaze by students of the institution, who were angered by the nature of the examination time table, which made them to be writing up to three courses in a day. It was gathered that the building went up in flames about two hours after students finished examination for the day. Despite the prompt intervention of men of the Enugu State Fire Service, all the answer scripts were burnt to ashes. The Police spokesman in Enugu State, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that three suspects have been arrested by the operatives of Ogui Police Division. According to him, “the police operatives were timely contacted and they moved to the scene where the block was engulfed by inferno. All the exams scripts written on 12/11/13 were engulfed by the inferno and burnt to ashes”. “The cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained as there was no loss of lives. Meanwhile investigations into the incident have commenced in full scale just as the presence of the police operatives and the fire service stopped further escalations of the fire outbreak”, he added. In the meantime, a source within the institution told DailyPost that the students would re-write the affected courses.
