AGO - Art Gallery of Ontario: Frank Johnston exhibited with The Group of Seven only once, in their first show at the Art Gallery of Toronto (now the Art Gallery of Ontario) in May 1920. Unlike MacDonald and Harris, he used tempera instead of oils. Shortly after that first exhibition, he left Toronto for Winnipeg, ending his association with the Group. In 1927, he changed his name to more exotic sounding Franz Johnston. The Pine, c. 1921 Franz Johnston, Canadian, 1888 - 1949 Oil on panel Overall: 21.6 x 14.9 cm Gift of C.B.
