AGREEMENT SIGNED BY THE NETHERLANDS AND MALDIVES GOVERNMENTS TO PROTECT BEACHES OF FOUR MALDIVIAN ISLANDS A Grant Agreement has been signed between the Government of the Republic of the Maldives and the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to implement a project that aims to protect the shorelines of Gn.Fuvahmulah, S.Maradhoo and Maradhoo-Feydhoo and S.Feydhoo for the benefit of the people of the Republic of the Maldives. The agreement signed last Thursday by Minister Abdulla Jihad and Ambassador Louis Piët marks the commencement of the development phase of the project. The works will be executed by a consortium of Royal HaskoningDHV and TechForce Innovations B.V. After approval of the project plan (result of the development phase), the implementation and operation & maintenance phases will start, that is the actual construction. If all goes to plan this will commence in 2016. Half of the implementation and operation and maintenance phase will be financed by the Dutch ORIO program. The remainder will most likely be covered by a loan.
