AGRICULTURAL AND INFRA STRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE GAMBIA These sectors of national development have registered so far, tremendous achievements as evident by the fact that the menace of electricity has been duly eradicated and that by the year 2016, rice being our staple food, will cease to be imported. The Government of the day had taken firm resolve to see to the realization of this vision as enshrined in our development blueprint. It could be perceived that agricultural ancillary required for a large scale rice and other crop production a huge percentage thereof had been put in place. All other relevant programs for development in the area of Agriculture are at high gear thanks to the Jammeh administration, other stake-holders and able partners in national development issues for the stance taken in this noble endeavor. The Solar street lights in Kotu and its environs had been observed to be very, very efficient and serves as supplement to the national grid. Turbo-machinery viz windmill, quite a number of them had been put in place and efficiently functional, capacity should continue to be built in these technology; solar energy and turbo-power generation. Steam turbine power generation technology needs to be invested into for its reliability, maintainability, availability and extended periods between overhauls. A single set of steam-turbine is capable of generating very high wattage and for this special reason, we need to look into its feasibility as well. The rural electrification project has achieved tremendous success as this is evident and perceivable. Efficient access roads to all remote corners of the country have been put in place thanks to the committed administration. Real estate development has also joined in the band-wagon of center-stage national development undertakings. We also continue to thank God Almighty for the natural, pure, clean / hygienic and delectable water supply which is an envy of the sub-region and the globe at large; it is simply unrivaled, it tastes so very good. All other basic amenities of live have been put in place an efficiently being administered. The import volume has ever improved greatly as evident by the fact that vessels turnaround is greatly increasing, for of-late we do not talk about vessels in port but those awaiting out-sea. The volume of import is greatly expanding thereby registering tremendous growth. the port of Banjul is ever expanding to meet the demand for container storage and general cargo handling facilities thanks to the committed management and staff of the port of Banjul. To add to the efficiency of communication and information technology (CIT) the ACE project was born which we are proud of as it adds value to the efficiency of communication and information technology. The financial sector has been tremendously developed as evidenced by our efficient banking services and capacity development in the area of banking and finance. The Gambia is inherently an investment heaven as this is evident. their exists more than twelve different banks in the country. The program for accelerated growth and employment PAGE strategy is manna from heaven and was hence timely introduced, programs and processes in the civil service sector had been greatly improved upon, notably in the banking sector, viz-a- viz instrumentation and automation of banking services being developed (B-banking system) among other things.Schools and health facilities have been established in all the regions of the nation thanks once again to the Jammeh administration. We are more than proud of a reputation of producing locally and in huge number our nurses, doctors and other stake-holders in nation building.
